New social impact podcast shines a light on locals leading change

A new podcast series launching Tuesday 21 October invites listeners to discover how big change starts with small, local ideas.

Silver Ball Social Innovations: Warrnambool shines a light on 6 local initiatives that have grown into movements with lasting impact. Fletcher Jones Family Foundations (FJFF) has commissioned Kirsten Diprose (Rural Podcasting Co) to develop the 6-episode series capturing the stories of FJFF’s social change partners.

The weekly series features:

  • One Day Studios

  • Find Your Voice Collective

  • Warrnambool Community Garden

  • Stoked Surf Therapy

  • Warrnambool College Indigenous Garden

  • The F Project

Host and producer Kirsten Diprose says that while some of these names may be familiar to Warrnambool locals, the series reveals so much more about each of them.

‘You might think you know some of these groups, like F Project or Find Your Voice Collective, but there are so many surprising stories about how they came to be, the people involved and what they're planning to do next,’ Kirsten said.

With the series kicking off during National Mental Health Month, she said each episode also shows the healing power of human connection.

‘A consistent theme was how every initiative begins with one person seeing potential where others might see problems. These stories show what happens when people look for the strength and possibility in others,’ Kirsten said.

‘The stories are local, but the message is universal. And at a time when society often feels divided, they offer an alternative by revealing the profound impact of connection, understanding and authentic support.’

The podcast features musicians, support workers, teachers, gardeners, students and artists, each willing to step up and build a stronger local community to benefit others. FJFF executive officer Lisa McLeod said the series was an invitation to listen, learn and be inspired.

‘We are proud and excited to launch the Silver Ball Social Innovations: Warrnambool podcast and share the incredible work of some of our social change partners,’ Lisa said.

‘FJFF backs the changemakers and the entrepreneurs solving social problems for the greater good and this series shines a light on the big impact these locals are making.’
