Fruit Rescue
A Warrnambool-based initiative that collects surplus fruit from private gardens and public spaces, preventing waste and supporting community health. Volunteers help harvest, sharing in the produce, while registered trees and organisations distribute fruit to those in need, promoting sustainability, social connection, and food security.
Warrnambool Repair Cafe
A free monthly community event where volunteers help repair broken household items, from clothing to electronics and bikes. It promotes waste reduction, skill-sharing, and social connection, encouraging people to repair rather than discard items, fostering sustainability and community engagement
Unpackaged Food Cooperative Warrnambool
A community-run bulk food co-op focused on sustainability and waste reduction. Members share in ordering and distribution, purchase directly from wholesalers, prioritise Australian and local products, and bring reusable containers. Membership fees and a 10% markup cover costs, fostering affordable, eco-friendly shopping and community spirit.
Western District Food Share
A not-for-profit Regional Food Hub in south-west Victoria, distributing emergency food to over 50,000 people annually through 100+ partner agencies and schools. It rescues surplus food, provides emergency hampers, supports food literacy, and diverts food from landfill, addressing regional food insecurity sustainably
Warrnambool Coastcare Landcare Network
An active volunteer-based organisation focused on environmental conservation, restoration, and education in Warrnambool and surrounds. They support local “Friends” groups, partner on projects like the Middle Island Penguin Project, conduct tree planting, and help shape environmental policy, welcoming hundreds of volunteers annually
Australian Plants Society Warrnambool & District
A local group of the Australian Plants Society Victoria, meeting monthly at Mozart Hall. Activities include talks, garden visits, plant propagation, open garden fundraisers, and excursions. The group promotes Australian native plants, community engagement, and education, welcoming new members and sharing regular newsletters
Gardens for Wildlife Warrnambool
A free community program partnering Warrnambool City Council with local volunteers to help residents create wildlife-friendly gardens. Volunteer Garden Guides offer free visits and tailored advice to enhance habitat for native wildlife, promoting biodiversity and conservation in urban gardens.
Friends of Swan Reserve
A volunteer group dedicated to developing and maintaining a first-class native plant garden at Swan Reserve, Warrnambool. They’ve revitalised the garden with indigenous banksias, rare species, feature trees, and educational signage, working closely with council and community to enhance biodiversity and public enjoyment.
Kurri Kurri Co-Op Society
Manages a conservation reserve near Warrnambool, focusing on protecting native flora and fauna. The group conducts research, fauna surveys, and weed management, sharing findings via newsletters. Members collaborate on stewardship, education, and conservation, supporting biodiversity and sustainable land management through active community involvement and partnerships
