We were advised late in February that we are a finalist in the Banksia Foundation national sustainability awards.  The actual award ceremony is March 23rd.

As with the Premier’s Sustainability Awards late last year, we are once again in humbling company.  We are in the “Future Places” category – the link to all finalists is https://banksiafdn.com/national-awards-finalists/

Our application to the Premier's Sustainability Award 2022 is a great snapshot of the quarry development up to mid 2022.

Our old quarry (Warrnambool's last sandstone quarry, closed in 1962) is being redeveloped into public open space and a bush gully walk.  Click here for our video diary of major steps in the development, thanks to project coordinator Bruce Campbell.

Thank you to the broader Warrnambool community for supporting WCG's Pick My Project submission.  While the project concept plan had been developed previously, the Pick My Project funding allowed for development to occur much faster than originally envisaged.  Stage 1 (the amphitheatre) is now almost complete with an opening planned for the second half of 2022 - we just need grass to grow in properly.  Click here to see broad planning for the development.

In July 2022 Warrnambool City Council awarded a Small Infrastructure Grant of $150,000 to Stage 2 of the quarry redevelopment - the forest gully and interpretative water display.  This work will progress through 2022-2023 pending planning permissions and so on.
