About the event

This innovative workshop will take you through the basics of raising many of the main vegie seeds in our climate using techniques like soil blocks and coir pots.  These are great for the environment, and even better for your seedlings.

We'll make some soil blocks from scratch in a hands-on session and look at coir pots small enough for seed raising. We'll talk about other techniques that minimise plastic like mass seeding into seedling trays.

Everything has pros and cons, and we will discuss these for all techniques especially control of watering and heat.

There will also be time spent on actually growing from seed for different groups of vegetables. Other plants like natives may be briefly discussed but they really need a session of their own. In our climate the main seed raising season for vegetables is from August onwards.  Get in now to be prepared.

Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

If you have a suggestion for a future workshop, we would love to hear it, email wcggrows@gmail.com and we'll see what we can do.

We acknowledge the Peek Whurrong People of the Maar Nation as the original custodians of the land on which we meet and garden. Our garden adjoins a significant place, we continue to learn its history as we work together in a spirit of reconciliation.
