Composting 101 workshop
Learn how to turn garden waste into free garden gold.
Time & Location
04 May 2024, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Warrnambool Community Garden, 2 Grieve St, Warrnambool VIC 3280, Australia
About the event
Good gardeners don't grow plants, they grow soil. Without healthy soil life, mostly microscopic, plants cannot thrive. One of the most effective ways to improve soil life is to make compost, then use it directly or as a compost tea.
Compost also helps reduce our waste, increases soil water retention, improves soil structure.
Most commercial composts, especially bagged composts, have been treated to maintain shelf life and do not have the biotic dynamism of freshly made composts.
Closing the waste loop is critical to becoming more sustainable, and it is super easy to do!
We'll cover:
- An overview of what is compost & several composting methods - there are many!
- What is living soil and how it helps plants grow
- Building your compost
- What is meant by aerobic and anaerobic
- Compost tea
- Worm farm basics - there may be an option to buy composting worms on the day
Get some friends together, get outside and learn something new together that you can use right away.
Lunch included in the ticket price.
If you have a suggestion for a future workshop, we would love to hear it, email grow@wcg3280.org.au and we'll see what we can do.
